One of the best ways to exercise is to do a workout in the pool. The pool can be used for many more things other than just swimming. The versatility that a pool allows you to have is unparalleled. There are so many exercises you can do and the best part is they are low impact, which helps protect your joints from the stress of other exercises. Step 1

Take swim lessons. Before you begin to do any form of exercises in the pool you have to be sure you are comfortable enough with your swimming. The pool can be a great place for exercises but, for those who are inexperienced swimmers, it can be equally dangerous. Be sure that you have experienced swimming lessons.

Step 2

Warm up. Before you begin your workout routine you should do some form of a warm up session. Just like you would if you were going to do weights or run on the treadmill, it is important to prepare your body for the workout. Start off with some stretching and then do a few laps in the pool just to situate yourself.

Step 3

Use water resistance. It is so great to do exercises in the pool because you are able to use the resistance of the water to your advantage. Movements are much tougher in water and this is what creates the strengthening of muscles and joints. It is not supposed to be easy to use the water to your advantage.

Step 4

Use floats and flippers to intensify your workout. While in the pool, you can use a variety of things that can increase your workout. One of the best things to use is a pair of flippers. Start by doing a few laps with the flippers on and feel the burn in your legs. The added resistance that the flippers create will make for one great leg workout. You can also use floats to help increase your workout.

Take classes. A great way to do pool exercises is to do them with a class. Many gyms have daily pool classes that offer great workout routines for those that are interested. Look into the next class and see if it is something you would be interested in.
